West Pier, Brighton
The West Pier, Brighton was designed and engineered by Eugenius Birch and opened in 1866.
It was added to over the years and finally completed in 1916 with the addition of a graceful concert hall.
The steamer pictured here is the HMS Arundel which was likely the first scheduled cross-channel-ferry to France from Brighton.
On the 28th March 2003 the West Pier Pavilion was destroyed in an arson attack, and then later on in the year set on fire and further damaged via a storm.
There are several conspiracy theories out there, but sadly it has now become just a shadow of its former self and an iron relic.
