ST PAUL'S STREET, BRIGHTON

St Paul’s Street, Brighton VE Party, May, 1945.

Millions of people took to the streets of Britain in May 1945 to celebrate VE Day – the day when the German armed forces signed an unconditional surrender, and the Second World War in Europe finally came to an end.

Skye Brackpool (born and bred in Brighton) recognised her nan in the picture - Rene Blackpool. Skye recalls how her dad David grew up on the street (see further comments on Brighton Past Facebook link).
